I knew I wanted everything to be white for the wedding but was not sure on the flowers at first. I had some help from Julie from Ad Lib in Hall Green Birmingham. It was her ideas that helped form the arrangements, she did several mock ups based in our initial discussion, in the months leading up to the wedding, which I think is a really helpful way to decide. Together, we eventually decided on white Amaryllis with white Hydrangeas for the centre arrangements for the wedding breakfast, and bouquets of white Hydrangeas for me and the bridesmaids, with small hydrangea petals for the button holes for the groom and grooms men. It was the wrong season for the flowers and we knew it would be difficult to source but decided to go ahead and keep our fingers crossed. As the day drew closer it became apparent that it was unlikely that hydrangeas were going to be available so it was back to the drawing board.

I was initially disappointed as I really didn’t want roses or any other typical wedding flower and felt that the initial idea would have brought something different. Julie was brilliant and came up with some other amazing options. We finally decided on using old English Chrysanthemum blooms in place of the hydrangeas, as these have large fluffy heads and come in white, and best of all they’re very unusual!

They looked incredible, I think even better than our initial plan would have. My bouquet was a large bunch of white chrysanths with pussy willow weaved around the edges…it was gorgeous and I later found out that Oli’s grandma (who’s 90!) had chrysanths as her bouquet 68 years ago and it made her day!
